Rome is nearly two months old and his room is still not finished. It's okay because he doesn't spend too much time in it anyway. If we had a baby monitor, I would feel more comfortable putting him in his crib overnight. So far this is what it looks like:
Vaughn Torin has a great collection of books already, thanks to the Book Exchange program that was started by his friend Elias. He also received one book per wellness check-up from his doctor, which is about six total. The paintings in the pictures were done by yours truly. The one over the crib has the chinese symbol for Ox, since Rome was born in the year of the Ox. The one over the bookshelf is for Vaughn... year of the pig (2007). I have two more paintings in progress.

Nursery Project - Week 5
I ordered my paper lanterns from www.paperlanternstore.com. I totally everyone use this company for their paper lantern needs. I bought irregular ribbed, even ribbed, and also a couple nylon lanterns (just because I didn't know how thin and durable the lanterns would be). I spent less than $20 including shipping and utilized everything I ordered. Needless to say, I'm a very satisfied customer. The second part of my project required ribbon, which I purchased on sale from Michaels... also less than $20.

Nursery Project Week Four
I really like the hand crafted stuff. It's great to have stuff hanging from the ceiling for the baby to look at. Instead of hot-glueing ribbons around an embroider hoop, I think I'll attach them to paper lanterns. Ohhhh... what a great idea. Let's look on google images for some nurseries with paper lanterns.

Week 2 Our Blank Canvas
To Show you what we're working with, here are a few shots of our 'blank canvas.' Vaughn Torin doesn't look so happy in the crib. We originally purchased the crib for him, but he has never ever ever used it. However, I have a feeling that once his baby brother arrives, Vaughn will want the crib back.
After Shots
Below are pictures of our progress. We painted the walls, added decorative molding, floating shelves (for those thoughtful little knick-knacks), and blinds. We tried a new dimmer, but it still requires additional wiring, which would delay our project significantly. Our next step is to add a valance, art, and minor touch-ups. I pulled out all of Vaughn Torin's old clothes to wash, totally forgetting that newborn babies need special laundry detergent. Anyway, this is where the crib will go.
Eventually we will replace the autograped Diamondback Pictures (displayed below) with a flat screen TV for the boys to share. Hopefully, we will find a changing table/dresser for this side of the room.

JUNE... One Month To Go
Frank and I participated in our community Yard Sale and made over $100 in three hours. We were able to buy paint, blinds, floating shelves, and a dimmer switch. (Frank shocked himself installing the dimmer.) We also priced some other items for next time (area rug $70, chair rail $25... and we really need a dresser/changing table $230, but I have a feeling we won't be able to get that one.) I have the before pictures, but not the after. Wait for Week 2!
